Cancer is a disease which means uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells. Breast cancer is a type of cancer. It is described as a cancerous growth in the breast tissue.
It is still unknown why a normal breast cell becomes a cancerous one. Breast cancer can break through normal breast cells and spread all over the body.
There are several different factors that affect getting a breast cancer and as a sum of these factors one can get the malicious disease.
These riskfactors have been grouped by specialists as follows:
a) Hereditary risk – when one's mother or sister has had a breast cancer then there is a higher risk for the person to have it too. It is explained so that a woman can inherit breast cancer susceptibility gene from one of her parents. It is important to realize that all women need to be screened for breast cancer even though it doesn't run in their families.
b) Hormonal risk factors – in breast cancer formation, female hormones estrogen and progesterone are involved.
c) Age – breast cancer occurs more often among middle-aged or older women.
d) Gender – although breast cancer is mostly diagnosed in women, it is a disease which can affect men too.
e) Diet an exercise – women who consume alcohol on regular basis or/and women who gain weight after menopausis have increased risk of getting a breast cancer.
