Breast Cancer Symptoms

In early stages of breast cancer women usually don't feel pain. It may happen that at first breast cancer doesn't have any symptoms at all. However, when the disease develops, it can cause several chances in one's breasts

  • a lump in the breast or in the armpit
  • variations in the size or shape of the breast
  • discharge from the nipple
  • a change in the color or texture of the skin of the breast or areola (such as dimpling, puckering, or scaliness)

It is necessary that changes that occur in the breast size, shape or colour should be reported to a doctor at first notice. These variations might not mean having a cancer but this decision must be made by a doctor. It is very important to diagnose breast cancer as early as possible because it is easier to treat breast cancer before it has spread. There are better chances for a total recovery when breast cancer is discovered and treated  eariler. Unfortunately it may take a long time (months or even years) before tumors grow large enough so they can be detected by normal means, thatswhy women should have regular mammograms from time-to-time or as often as the doctor says (for example women over 40 years old should should have a clinical breast exam done each year).
