Breast Cancer Treatment

After breast cancer has been detected there are various forms to treat it. First and most common is surgery. Nowadays the goal in surgery is to preserve as much of the healthy breast as possible and also from the surrounding areas. Next opportunity of breast cancer treatment is local/regional treatment that is directed straightly to the breast and to the lymph nodes around it. Regional treatment means that the treatment is directed to the lymph nodes in the parts of the body surrounding the breast.

Systematic breast cancer treatment is directed to the whole body as it is a system where everything is connected.

A bit different treatment style is alternative and holistic therapies that do not only treat the body, but also the mind and the spirit. Therefore it is directed to the whole person.

Hormonal therapy is connected very closely to different drugs as there is a close link between hormones and breast cancer and some drugs are able to affect that link.

Another quite common breast cancer treatment and a treatment against other cancers is chemotherapy. There are some side affects to this therapy, but usually it works quite well and is able to terminate the cancer cells.

The most important part of breast cancer treatments is to establish long term treatment plan and stick to it. Consult with your doctor and visit him often for regular control.
